Overview

Pramlintide is an amylin analog used to treat type 1 and type 2 diabetes mellitus. It works by slowing gastric emptying, reducing postprandial glucagon levels, and increasing satiety, thereby lowering blood sugar levels and aiding in weight loss. It is administered subcutaneously before meals and is used in conjunction with mealtime insulin in patients who have not achieved adequate glycemic control with insulin alone.
