Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pramoxine is a topical local anesthetic used to temporarily relieve pain and itching associated with minor skin irritations, insect bites, poison ivy/oak/sumac rashes, minor burns or cuts, hemorrhoids, and other anorectal or anogenital disorders. It works by stabilizing neuronal membranes of nerve endings at the site of application, thereby blocking the transmission of pain signals. Pramoxine is structurally distinct from other local anesthetics as it does not contain the typical ester or amide linkage found in procaine-type drugs. The drug is minimally absorbed through intact skin when applied topically[1][3][5][7].
