Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pranoprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) of the propionic acid derivative class, primarily used as an ophthalmic solution for the treatment of ocular inflammation and pain. It is indicated for conditions such as blepharitis, conjunctivitis, keratitis, scleritis, and post-operative ocular inflammation. Pranoprofen acts by inhibiting cyclooxygenase enzymes (COX-1 and COX-2), thereby blocking the conversion of arachidonic acid to prostaglandins and reducing inflammatory responses. Additionally, it has been shown to inhibit NLRP3 inflammasome activation and decrease proinflammatory cytokine release in corneal tissue[1][2][6].
