Drug intelligence / Profile preview
A therapeutic combination of pravastatin, an HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor (statin), and valsartan, an angiotensin II type 1 receptor blocker (ARB). This specific combination (40 mg pravastatin and 160 mg valsartan) was investigated by researchers at Gachon University Gil Medical Center, led by Dr. Kwang Kon Koh, for the treatment of patients with comorbid hypertension and hypercholesterolemia. The combination aims to provide additive cardiovascular benefits, including improved endothelial function (flow-mediated dilation), increased insulin sensitivity, and reduced inflammatory markers, beyond the effects of either monotherapy. It is not a commercially marketed fixed-dose combination product but was evaluated in Phase 4 randomized clinical trials.
