Overview

PRB-002 (also referred to as PRB-2) is a preclinical-stage botulinum toxin type A candidate being developed by PharmaResearch Bio. It functions as an inhibitor of Synaptosomal-associated protein 25 (SNAP25). As a neurotoxic protein, it acts as a zinc-dependent endopeptidase that specifically cleaves SNAP25, a member of the SNARE protein complex. This cleavage prevents the docking and fusion of acetylcholine-containing vesicles with the presynaptic membrane, effectively blocking neurotransmission at the neuromuscular junction. The resulting localized muscle paralysis is utilized for both aesthetic improvements, such as the reduction of facial wrinkles, and therapeutic treatments for conditions involving muscle overactivity or spasms.
