Overview

PRD-004 is a preclinical-stage small molecule inhibitor of proprotein convertase subtilisin/kexin type 9 (PCSK9) being developed by PRD Therapeutics, a Japanese biotechnology startup. The drug is designed to modulate lipid metabolism by inhibiting PCSK9, a protein that plays a critical role in the degradation of low-density lipoprotein receptors (LDLR). By blocking PCSK9, PRD-004 aims to increase the density of LDLR on the surface of hepatocytes, thereby enhancing the clearance of LDL cholesterol from the blood. The program is currently in the lead optimization phase, with a primary focus on treating dyslipidemia and related rare metabolic disorders, though the company intends to expand its application to broader cardiovascular indications.
