Overview

PRD002 is a preclinical-stage small molecule drug candidate being developed by PRD Therapeutics. It is designed as a dual-action agent targeting both Sterol O-Acyltransferase 2 (SOAT2, formerly known as ACAT2) and Proprotein Convertase Subtilisin/Kexin Type 9 (PCSK9). By inhibiting SOAT2, the drug aims to modulate lipid metabolism and address dyslipidemia by reducing the production of cholesterol esters in the liver and intestines. Its concurrent targeting of PCSK9 is intended to enhance the clearance of low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol from the bloodstream. PRD002 is currently in the lead optimization stage for the treatment of Homozygous Familial Hypercholesterolemia (HoFH) and metabolic liver diseases, including Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatohepatitis (MASH) and Metabolic Dysfunction-Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD).
