Overview

This treatment regimen refers to a Phase I clinical trial protocol (NCT02461927) developed by Washington University School of Medicine for patients with relapsed acute myeloid leukemia (AML) or myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) following an allogeneic stem cell transplant. The protocol evaluates the safety and feasibility of a sequential therapy consisting of salvage chemotherapy (administered at the physician's discretion), followed by a donor lymphocyte infusion (DLI), and subsequent cycles of azacitidine. Azacitidine, a hypomethylating agent, is utilized in this context to potentially modulate T-cell function and reduce the incidence of graft-versus-host disease (GVHD) while maintaining the graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) effect provided by the DLI.
