Overview

pre-miR-196b is a precursor microRNA molecule that is processed into mature miR-196b, which acts as a tumor suppressor in various malignancies, including cervical cancer. It functions by directly targeting the 3' untranslated region (UTR) of Homeobox B7 (HOXB7) mRNA, leading to its degradation or translational inhibition. The downregulation of HOXB7 subsequently reduces the expression of Vascular Endothelial Growth Factor (VEGF), thereby inhibiting tumor cell proliferation, migration, invasion, and angiogenesis. Preclinical research has demonstrated that transfection with pre-miR-196b reduces cell viability and clonogenicity in vitro and suppresses tumor growth and microvessel density in xenograft models, suggesting its potential as a therapeutic agent for improving patient outcomes in cervical cancer.
