Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pred Forte is a sterile, topical anti-inflammatory ophthalmic medication containing a 1% microfine suspension of prednisolone acetate, a small molecule glucocorticoid. It is indicated for the treatment of steroid-responsive inflammation of the palpebral and bulbar conjunctiva, cornea, and anterior segment of the globe. The drug works by binding to cytoplasmic glucocorticoid receptors, subsequently inhibiting the inflammatory response including edema, fibrin deposition, capillary dilation, and the migration of phagocytes to the site of acute inflammation. It also helps prevent capillary proliferation, collagen deposition, and scar formation. Prednisolone acetate is approximately 3 to 5 times as potent as hydrocortisone on a weight basis, making it effective for conditions such as allergic conjunctivitis, acne rosacea, superficial punctate keratitis, and iritis.
