This combination therapy consists of low-dose prednisolone, aspirin, and heparin, specifically investigated by Imperial College London for the treatment of pregnant women with antiphospholipid syndrome (APS) who have a history of recurrent miscarriage despite standard treatment. Prednisolone, a synthetic corticosteroid, acts as an immunosuppressant and anti-inflammatory agent by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor, potentially mitigating the autoimmune-mediated placental damage characteristic of APS. The combination aims to address both the thrombotic and inflammatory pathways involved in APS-related pregnancy loss, particularly in cases refractory to standard anticoagulant therapy.
