Prednisolone + vitamin D is a combination therapy involving the synthetic glucocorticoid prednisolone and vitamin D (commonly as cholecalciferol or ergocalciferol). Prednisolone acts primarily as an anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive agent by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor, modulating gene expression, and suppressing immune cell activity. Vitamin D is a fat-soluble secosteroid that regulates calcium and phosphate metabolism, supports bone health, and modulates immune function. This combination may be used in clinical settings where long-term corticosteroid therapy increases the risk of osteoporosis or vitamin D deficiency. Co-administration aims to mitigate corticosteroid-induced bone loss and maintain adequate calcium homeostasis. There is evidence that combining these agents can improve clinical outcomes in conditions such as nephrotic syndrome in children by improving renal function, immune parameters, and reducing adverse effects associated with steroid use[5][10]. However, moderate drug interactions exist between prednisolone and vitamin D3; monitoring may be required[1][2].
