Overview

Prednisolone sodium phosphate is a synthetic adrenocortical steroid drug with predominantly glucocorticoid properties. It is a corticosteroid used to treat various inflammatory, autoimmune, and hormonal conditions. The pharmacological effects include promotion of gluconeogenesis, increased glycogen deposition in the liver, inhibition of glucose utilization, anti-insulin activity, increased protein catabolism, increased lipolysis, fat synthesis and storage stimulation, increased glomerular filtration rate, and increased calcium excretion. It works by suppressing the immune system and reducing inflammation by binding to the glucocorticoid receptor, inhibiting pro-inflammatory signals, and promoting anti-inflammatory signals. Prednisolone sodium phosphate was granted FDA approval on December 19, 1973.
