Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Prednisolone sodium phosphate 1.0% (often spelled Prenisolone sodium phosphate 1.0%) is an FDA-approved topical corticosteroid ophthalmic solution used to treat steroid-responsive inflammatory conditions of the eye, such as uveitis, iritis, keratitis, and allergic conjunctivitis, as well as postoperative ocular inflammation following cataract surgery. The active ingredient, prednisolone sodium phosphate, is a water-soluble ester of the synthetic glucocorticoid prednisolone. It acts as an agonist on the glucocorticoid receptor (GR), suppressing the production of inflammatory mediators and reducing swelling, redness, and capillary dilation. In clinical trials, such as the Phase 2 trial NCT00353964 sponsored by Evolutec Group, prednisolone sodium phosphate 1.0% has been utilized as an active comparator against investigational anti-inflammatory agents like rEV131.
