Overview
Bridge therapy-Fondazione I.R.C.C.S. Istituto Neurologico Carlo Besta refers to a specific pharmacological regimen developed by the Carlo Besta Neurological Institute for the treatment of Medication Overuse Headache (MOH). This combination therapy is used as a 'bridge' to support patients during the withdrawal of overused acute headache medications, such as triptans or NSAIDs. The regimen consists of **prednisone**, a corticosteroid that reduces neurogenic inflammation and headache severity; **bromazepam**, a benzodiazepine that addresses anxiety and insomnia common during withdrawal; and **pantoprazole**, a proton pump inhibitor included to prevent gastrointestinal side effects associated with corticosteroid use. This protocol was specifically evaluated in a home-based setting during the COVID-19 pandemic to maintain continuity of care for MOH patients.
