Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Prednisone acetate is a synthetic glucocorticoid corticosteroid and a derivative of prednisone. Glucocorticoids are anti-inflammatory and immunosuppressive agents that act by inhibiting phospholipase A2, thereby reducing the synthesis of pro-inflammatory mediators such as prostaglandins and leukotrienes. Prednisone itself is a prodrug, converted in the liver to its active form prednisolone, which then binds to glucocorticoid receptors to modulate gene expression and suppress immune responses[5]. Prednisone (and its derivatives) are used for a wide range of inflammatory and autoimmune conditions including arthritis, allergic reactions, asthma, lupus, skin diseases, certain cancers, and more[2][4][7]. However, there is little evidence or documentation supporting "prednisone acetate" as an approved or commonly used pharmaceutical product; most clinical use involves either prednisone (oral) or prednisolone/prednisolone acetate (ophthalmic)[1][6].
