Preflucel is a seasonal, trivalent inactivated influenza vaccine developed using Vero cell technology. It contains purified, split virions of three influenza virus strains (A/H1N1, A/H3N2, and B), with 15 micrograms of hemagglutinin antigen from each strain per dose. Unlike traditional egg-based vaccines, Preflucel is produced in mammalian Vero cells and does not contain preservatives, antibiotics, or egg proteins—making it suitable for adults and elderly individuals with allergies to eggs or antibiotics. The vaccine works by inducing an immune response against the included influenza strains to provide prophylaxis against seasonal flu. Clinical trials demonstrated robust immunogenicity and protective efficacy comparable to licensed egg-derived vaccines; however, all batches were voluntarily recalled from the European market due to increased risk of hypersensitivity reactions associated with certain manufacturing issues[1][2][3][5][6].
