Overview
Pregabalin + naproxen sodium is a combination therapy being investigated for the management of moderate to severe pain in patients with oral cancer. Pregabalin is a gabapentinoid that acts as a ligand for the alpha-2-delta subunit of voltage-gated calcium channels, thereby reducing the release of excitatory neurotransmitters and modulating neuropathic pain. Naproxen sodium is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that inhibits cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) and cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2) enzymes, leading to decreased prostaglandin synthesis and reduction of inflammatory pain. This combination aims to address both the neuropathic and inflammatory components of cancer-related pain, potentially offering an alternative to opioid-based regimens like tramadol.
