Overview

PregVit-Folic 5 is a prescription-only prenatal multivitamin and mineral supplement developed by Duchesnay Inc. It is specifically formulated for women at an elevated risk of neural tube defect (NTD)-affected pregnancies, such as those with a personal or family history of NTDs, diabetes, or malabsorption issues. The product consists of a two-tablet regimen: a pink morning tablet containing iron, zinc, and various vitamins, and a blue evening tablet containing 5 mg of folic acid, vitamin B12, vitamin D3, and calcium. This split-dose formulation is designed to optimize the absorption of nutrients like iron and calcium, which can interfere with each other when taken simultaneously. The high-dose folic acid (5 mg) targets the folate metabolic pathway to reduce the risk of congenital malformations. It was marketed in Canada but was cancelled post-market as of March 31, 2025.
