Overview
PreHistin is an over-the-counter, sublingual lozenge formulation of cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12) developed as a prophylactic treatment for seasonal allergic rhinitis and other atopic allergic diseases. It delivers cyanocobalamin through the buccal mucosa directly into the bloodstream, and is proposed to work by rebalancing immune function, lowering allergen-specific IgE levels, and reducing the overproduction and release of mediators such as histamine that drive allergy symptoms, rather than by directly blocking histamine receptors like conventional antihistamines.[1][3][6] Developed originally by Cobalis/BioGentech, the product was evaluated in large Phase III randomized, double-blind trials as a pre-seasonal allergy medication and later marketed as an OTC “Allergy Defense Formula” lozenge to be started before and continued through allergy season.[1][3][4][5][6]
