Premasol

Premasol is a sterile, nonpyrogenic solution of essential and nonessential amino acids specifically designed for neonates and infants requiring parenteral nutrition. It serves as a nitrogen source to promote protein synthesis and wound healing, and to reduce the rate of protein catabolism in patients where the oral or enteral route is inadequate or impossible. The formulation is tailored to meet the unique metabolic needs of premature and low-birth-weight infants, often containing higher concentrations of certain amino acids like tyrosine and histidine compared to adult formulations. It is typically administered via central or peripheral intravenous infusion as part of a total parenteral nutrition (TPN) regimen. The Women and Infants Hospital of Rhode Island has utilized Premasol in clinical trials to evaluate whether early aggressive protein intake improves growth and neurodevelopmental outcomes in very low birthweight infants.
