Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Premi-TAT is an equine-derived polyclonal antitoxin developed by Premium Serums and Vaccines for the treatment and prophylaxis of tetanus. It consists of enzyme-refined equine antibodies (immunoglobulins) that specifically target and neutralize tetanospasmin, the neurotoxin produced by *Clostridium tetani*. By binding to the circulating toxin, Premi-TAT prevents it from attaching to nerve endings and causing the characteristic muscle spasms associated with the disease. The product is available in both liquid and lyophilized (freeze-dried) formulations, typically at a strength of 1500 International Units (IU), and is manufactured according to British Pharmacopoeia (B.P.) standards.
