premiR-375 is a microRNA mimic or precursor molecule designed to restore the levels of miR-375, a tumor-suppressive microRNA that is significantly downregulated in pancreatic cancer and other solid tumors. As a form of microRNA replacement therapy, it functions by binding to the 3' untranslated regions (UTRs) of specific target mRNAs, leading to their degradation or translational inhibition. Key targets of miR-375 identified in pancreatic cancer research include Insulin-like growth factor binding protein 5 (IGFBP5) and Caveolin-1 (CAV-1), both of which are associated with cell proliferation and tumor progression. Preclinical studies have demonstrated that restoring miR-375 expression can inhibit pancreatic cancer cell growth, induce apoptosis, and potentially enhance the efficacy of other antiproliferative agents such as benzyl isothiocyanate (BITC).
