Prenalterol

Prenalterol is a small molecule sympathomimetic agent and cardiac stimulant that acts as a partial agonist at the β1-adrenergic receptor. It exhibits selectivity for the β1 subtype and has intrinsic sympathomimetic activity of about 60%. Its primary pharmacological effect is to increase myocardial contractility (positive inotropy), with minimal impact on heart rate. Prenalterol has been used in the treatment of acute and chronic heart failure and post-myocardial infarction low-output syndrome. It also reduces systemic vascular resistance and stimulates insulin release as well as activation of the renin–angiotensin–aldosterone system. The drug was marketed under the brand name Hyprenan in Denmark, Norway, and Sweden[1][3][6][7].
