Overview

Prenoxdiazine is a small molecule antitussive (cough suppressant) used primarily for the symptomatic relief of dry, nonproductive coughs, especially those of bronchial origin. It acts peripherally by desensitizing pulmonary stretch receptors in the respiratory tract, thereby reducing cough impulses originating from the lungs. Unlike centrally acting antitussives, it does not suppress the cough center in the brain but works at peripheral sites to decrease tussal (cough) reflex sensitivity. It is typically administered orally and is available as tablets or syrup. Common side effects include mild sedation, dizziness, nausea, constipation, and dry mouth[1][2][5][7]. There is no evidence of teratogenic risk when used during pregnancy[6][10].
