Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Prepandrix (also known as Adjupanrix or Q-Pan) is a monovalent, inactivated, split-virion pandemic influenza vaccine developed by GSK for the prevention of disease caused by the H5N1 subtype of influenza A virus. The vaccine incorporates the AS03 adjuvant system, an oil-in-water emulsion containing squalene, alpha-tocopherol, and polysorbate 80, which enhances the immune response and allows for a lower dose of viral antigen (dose-sparing). It works by inducing neutralizing antibodies against the viral hemagglutinin (HA) protein, providing protection against the highly pathogenic H5N1 avian influenza strain. Prepandrix was the first H5N1 vaccine to receive marketing authorization in the European Union (2008), and the formulation was later approved in the United States under the name Q-Pan (2013) for use in individuals at increased risk of exposure during a pandemic.
