Overview
Preprocessed thawed donor FMT is an investigational microbiome-based therapy consisting of fecal material from healthy donors that has been processed, frozen, and thawed for administration. It is currently being evaluated by the University Hospital of North Norway in the COMEBACK trial (NCT03691987) for the treatment of myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS). The therapy is administered via enema and aims to correct gut dysbiosis, which is hypothesized to drive systemic immune activation and metabolic disturbances in patients with ME/CFS. By restoring a healthy gut microbiota, the treatment seeks to alleviate fatigue and other systemic symptoms associated with the condition.
