Prevenar 13

Prevenar 13 (PCV13) is a sterile solution of saccharides from the capsular antigens of 13 serotypes of Streptococcus pneumoniae (1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, 18C, 19A, 19F, and 23F) individually conjugated to a non-toxic diphtheria toxin carrier protein (CRM197). Developed and manufactured by Pfizer, it is indicated for active immunization for the prevention of invasive disease, pneumonia, and otitis media caused by the included serotypes. The Telethon Kids Institute has conducted research on its use in maternal immunization strategies in high-risk settings like Papua New Guinea to evaluate its safety and immunogenicity in women of childbearing age, aiming to provide indirect protection to infants through maternal antibody transfer.
