Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Prevenar 20 is a 20-valent pneumococcal conjugate vaccine developed by Pfizer to provide broad protection against invasive pneumococcal disease and pneumonia caused by *Streptococcus pneumoniae*. It contains capsular polysaccharides from 20 different serotypes (1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 8, 9V, 10A, 11A, 12F, 14, 15B, 18C, 19A, 19F, 22F, 23F, and 33F), each individually conjugated to the CRM197 carrier protein. This vaccine builds upon the earlier Prevnar 13 by adding seven additional serotypes (8, 10A, 11A, 12F, 15B, 22F, and 33F) that are associated with high disease burden, antibiotic resistance, and severity. It is indicated for active immunization in individuals aged 6 weeks and older to prevent diseases such as meningitis, bacteremia, and pneumonia.
