Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PrevEp004 is a novel intravenous (IV) formulation of topiramate being developed by Prevep for the treatment of neonatal seizures and status epilepticus. Topiramate is a broad-spectrum anticonvulsant that exerts its therapeutic effects through multiple mechanisms, including the modulation of voltage-gated sodium channels, antagonism of AMPA/kainate-type glutamate receptors, and inhibition of carbonic anhydrase isoenzymes. This IV formulation is specifically designed to address the need for rapid delivery and precise dosing in emergency clinical settings where oral administration is not feasible, such as in neonates or patients experiencing acute status epilepticus. By providing a parenteral route for topiramate, PrevEp004 aims to offer both antiepileptic and neuroprotective benefits in critical care environments.
