Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Prevnar 13 is a pneumococcal 13-valent conjugate vaccine used for active immunization to prevent invasive disease, pneumonia, and acute otitis media caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae. It contains saccharides from the capsular antigens of 13 different serotypes of S. pneumoniae (1, 3, 4, 5, 6A, 6B, 7F, 9V, 14, 18C, 19A, 19F, and 23F), which are individually conjugated to a non-toxic diphtheria CRM197 protein carrier. The polysaccharides are chemically activated and covalently linked to the protein carrier to form glycoconjugates. The vaccine is adsorbed on aluminum phosphate to enhance immune response.
