Overview

PRF + amikacin + teicoplanin is a combination therapy consisting of platelet-rich fibrin (PRF), amikacin, and teicoplanin. PRF is an autologous fibrin matrix derived from the patient's own blood, used as a biological dressing to promote wound healing. When combined with antimicrobial agents such as amikacin (an aminoglycoside antibiotic) and teicoplanin (a glycopeptide antibiotic), this formulation provides both tissue regeneration support and prolonged local antibacterial activity. Amikacin acts by binding to the 30S ribosomal subunit of bacteria, inhibiting protein synthesis primarily in Gram-negative organisms but also some Gram-positive bacteria. Teicoplanin inhibits cell wall synthesis in Gram-positive bacteria by binding to D-Ala-D-Ala termini of cell wall precursors. The combination with PRF allows for sustained release of these antibiotics at the wound site, maintaining effective concentrations for up to seven days and enabling less frequent dressing changes in infected wounds[1][2][9]. This approach is particularly useful for managing chronic or infected wounds where both infection control and tissue repair are needed.
