PRI-003 is an orally bioavailable D-enantiomeric peptide (D-peptide) developed by researchers at Forschungszentrum Jülich for the treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, including Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) and Alzheimer's disease. It functions as a neuro-inflammation inhibitor and has demonstrated significant neuroprotective efficacy in preclinical models. In studies using the SOD1G93A transgenic mouse model of ALS, PRI-003 treatment resulted in a significant delay in disease onset, improved motor coordination, and a slowing of the neurodegenerative phenotype. The compound was originally identified for its potent anti-inflammatory properties in Alzheimer's disease models and is designed to be stable against proteolytic degradation due to its all-D-amino acid structure.
