Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PrimeC is an oral, extended-release fixed-dose combination of the fluoroquinolone antibiotic ciprofloxacin and the non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) celecoxib. Developed by NeuroSense Therapeutics, it is designed to address the multifactorial nature of neurodegenerative diseases like Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) by simultaneously targeting neuroinflammation, iron accumulation, and impaired RNA regulation. Ciprofloxacin acts as a Dicer activator, facilitating microRNA processing through interaction with the TRBP protein, and serves as an iron chelator. Celecoxib provides selective COX-2 inhibition to mitigate inflammatory processes and oxidative stress. PrimeC has received Orphan Drug Designation from the FDA and EMA for the treatment of ALS and is currently advancing into Phase 3 clinical development following positive Phase 2b results.
