Drug intelligence / Profile preview
PrimeCell refers to a platform of autologous cell therapy products developed by PrimeCell Therapeutics, primarily focusing on regenerative medicine. The most prominent application is an autologous chondrocyte implantation (ACI) for the treatment of articular cartilage defects. The process involves harvesting a biopsy of healthy tissue from the patient, isolating specific cell types (such as chondrocytes, keratinocytes, or fibroblasts), and expanding them ex vivo in a GMP-certified facility. These expanded cells are then delivered back to the patient to promote tissue regeneration. In cartilage repair, the implanted chondrocytes produce a hyaline-like extracellular matrix rich in type II collagen and proteoglycans, restoring joint function and potentially delaying the onset of osteoarthritis. The platform has also been investigated for chronic wound healing, skin defect repair, and myocardial regeneration using autologous keratinocytes, fibroblasts, and mesenchymal stem cells, respectively.
