PrimeCells are a proprietary type of adult-derived pluripotent stem cells developed by PrimeCell Therapeutics, a subsidiary of PrimeGen Biotech. These cells are uniquely derived from adult germ cells, specifically spermatogonial stem cells found in the testes, rather than from embryos. PrimeCells are characterized by their pluripotency, which allows them to differentiate into specialized cells from all three germ layers: ectoderm, mesoderm, and endoderm. This technology was designed to provide a source of pluripotent cells for regenerative medicine that avoids the ethical controversies associated with embryonic stem cells and the genetic manipulation required for induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs). The therapeutic mechanism involves the transplantation of these cells into damaged tissues, where they are intended to differentiate into functional cell types such as cardiomyocytes, neurons, or insulin-producing cells to restore organ function. While the technology showed preclinical promise for conditions like myocardial infarction and neurodegenerative diseases, its development has largely been superseded by other stem cell platforms.
