Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Primocyn is a topical wound and skin care solution formulated with hypochlorous acid (HOCl) as the primary active agent. HOCl is produced via electrolysis of purified water and sodium chloride, resulting in a solution rich in reactive oxygen and chlorine species. This agent mimics the body's own immune defense mechanisms by being a naturally occurring antimicrobial produced by neutrophils. Primocyn is designed for the debridement and care of various wounds, including pressure ulcers (stage I–IV), partial- and full-thickness wounds, diabetic foot ulcers, post-surgical wounds, burns (first and second degree), graft and donor sites, and for general skin disinfection. The product is FDA 510(k)-cleared and is supported by numerous patents and international regulatory clearances. The HOCl in Primocyn disrupts bacterial cell membranes, denatures proteins, and causes rapid microbial killing, including of antibiotic-resistant strains such as MRSA and VRE, achieving a >99.9% kill rate within 30 seconds. Primocyn is non-toxic, safe for use near eyes and mucous membranes, and is available in both solution and hydrogel formulations[1][3][5].
