Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Primodil-L is a fixed-dose combination tablet containing the calcium channel blocker amlodipine (5 mg) and the angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) losartan potassium (50 mg). Developed by Medley, it is approved for the treatment of hypertension, particularly in patients with associated nephropathy or those requiring dual therapy to achieve blood pressure control. Amlodipine works by inhibiting the influx of calcium ions into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, leading to vasodilation and reduced peripheral vascular resistance. Losartan selectively blocks the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor, preventing vasoconstriction and aldosterone secretion. Together, these complementary mechanisms effectively lower blood pressure, reduce cardiac workload, and help protect renal function.
