Overview

PRO-176 is an ophthalmic 1,2-dimyristoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (DMPC)-based nanoemulsion developed by Laboratorios Sophia, SA de CV. It is composed of a novel oily phase of castor oil and DMPC, and incorporates propylene glycol. The drug is indicated for the treatment of dry eye disease (DED) by supplementing lipids to the tear film, maintaining aqueous-like dispersion, and reducing tear evaporation. The lipidic phase acts as a surfactant, aiding in the dissemination of nonpolar lipids in the aqueous component of tears, while propylene glycol modifies tear film viscosity.
