Overview

PRO-302 is an inhaled formulation of carbon monoxide (iCO) being developed by Proterris for the prevention of Primary Graft Dysfunction (PGD) in patients undergoing lung transplantation. The therapeutic approach leverages the cytoprotective, anti-inflammatory, and anti-apoptotic properties of carbon monoxide to mitigate ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI), a major cause of early morbidity and mortality following organ transplantation. By delivering low doses of CO directly to the lungs, PRO-302 aims to reduce the inflammatory response and oxidative stress associated with the re-establishment of blood flow to the donor organ. The drug is currently in the early stages of clinical development, with an IND filing planned for the second half of 2025.
