Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Pro IGF-1 is a dietary supplement marketed primarily to bodybuilders and athletes for its purported ability to enhance muscle growth, recovery, and fat loss. The product contains a concentrated source of insulin-like growth factor 1 (IGF-1) peptides and co-factors extracted from proprietary whey protein. It utilizes a liposomal delivery system designed to increase the bioavailability of the active ingredients. The mechanism of action is based on the anabolic effects of IGF-1, which promotes muscle cell proliferation (hyperplasia), increases protein synthesis, supports bone and joint health, improves stamina and flexibility, aids in recovery from exertion or injury, and may have anti-aging properties. Unlike growth hormone (GH), which acts as a precursor by stimulating endogenous production of IGF-1 in the liver, this supplement aims to provide exogenous sources directly[1][2][5]. There are claims that it contains over 1000% more IGF-1 than deer antler-based products[2]. It is not an FDA-approved pharmaceutical drug but rather sold as a dietary supplement.
