Pro-ocular

Pro-ocular is a novel, low-concentration progesterone topical gel (0.5% or 1%) developed for the treatment of ocular surface diseases, including dry eye disease (DED) and chronic ocular graft-versus-host disease (oGvHD). Unlike traditional ophthalmic treatments that are administered directly to the eye, Pro-ocular is applied to the forehead and massaged into the skin. This unique delivery method activates a neural pathway, likely involving the V1 branch of the trigeminal nerve (cranial nerve V), which in turn stimulates the lacrimal and meibomian glands to increase endogenous tear production and improve the lipid layer of the tear film. This mechanism of action is distinct from systemic absorption and aims to alleviate symptoms such as dryness, grittiness, and ocular pain by enhancing natural tear secretion. The product was originally developed by GLIA LLC and has been licensed to SIFI for European markets and Pharmadax for Asian markets.
