Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Probio-Tec is a brand name for a range of probiotic solutions and products developed and manufactured by the global bioscience company Chr. Hansen (now part of Novonesis). It is not a single drug but a trademark under which various combinations of clinically documented probiotic strains are marketed. [5, 10] Different Probio-Tec formulations exist, containing different strains targeted for various health benefits. For example, some formulations combine Lactobacillus rhamnosus (LGG) and Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis (BB-12), which are two of the world's most studied probiotic strains. [1, 2, 6] Other formulations may include Lactobacillus acidophilus LA-5, Lactobacillus paracasei (F-19), or strains like GR-1 and RC-14 for vaginal health. [3, 8] These probiotics function by helping to maintain or restore the balance of the gut and vaginal microflora. [3, 8] Probio-Tec products have been investigated in clinical trials for various indications, including the prevention of irinotecan-induced diarrhea, management of obesity and related low-grade inflammation, and symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).
