Overview

Probiotic 6600 is a live biotherapeutic product consisting of a specific commensal bacterial strain being developed by Changhai Hospital as an adjuvant therapy for inflammatory bowel diseases, including ulcerative colitis and Crohn's disease. The strain is characterized by its unique ability to synthesize adhesins and exopolysaccharides, which facilitate its function as a core commensal in the human gut. Its therapeutic effects are mediated through several mechanisms: the regulation of the Treg/Th17 immune balance via the production of short-chain fatty acids (SCFAs), the inhibition of the NF-κB inflammatory cascade through the activation of the TLR2/MyD88 pathway, and the enhancement of intestinal barrier function by upregulating zonula occludens-1 (ZO-1). Additionally, Probiotic 6600 specifically metabolizes arabinoxylan into indole lactate, an anti-inflammatory metabolite that provides therapeutic value within the colitis microenvironment. It is administered orally as enteric-coated capsules containing 10^11 CFU.
