Overview
**Probiotic milk** is a nonproprietary fermented milk product used as a live microbial intervention rather than a conventional pharmaceutical drug. In the ProPACT randomized trial, pregnant women received 250 mL/day from 36 weeks' gestation to 3 months postpartum; the product contained *Lactobacillus rhamnosus* GG, *Bifidobacterium animalis* subsp. *lactis* Bb-12, and *Lactobacillus acidophilus* La-5. It was studied for prevention of atopic dermatitis and other allergy-related outcomes in offspring, and a separate trial context also mentions probiotic fermented milk for constipation. Its intended mechanism is microbiome modulation and downstream immunomodulation, potentially affecting maternal and infant gut colonization and immune maturation rather than acting through a single defined molecular target. The supplied study milk was sponsored and distributed by Tine BA in the Norwegian ProPACT study.
