Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Probudur is a proprietary long-acting liposomal formulation of bupivacaine developed for single-injection use at the wound site to manage post-operative pain. It acts as a local anesthetic by binding to sodium channels and blocking pain signal transmission to the brain. The liposomal delivery system enables both immediate onset and sustained release of bupivacaine for extended analgesia—preclinical studies have demonstrated effective pain control for at least 96 hours (four days), with some models showing up to five days of relief. Probudur is being developed specifically to reduce or eliminate the need for opioids after surgery in approved indications. The drug has shown favorable safety and tolerability profiles in animal studies compared with free bupivacaine[1][3][5][6][9].
