Drug intelligence / Profile preview
**Procaine merethoxylline** is an organomercury small-molecule salt comprising the mercurial diuretic merethoxylline and procaine. It was historically used as a component of **Dicurin Procaine**, an injectable product that also contained theophylline, for treatment of edema and ascites. The mercurial component promotes diuresis through inhibition of renal sodium ion absorption, while procaine was included to reduce local irritation associated with injection of the mercury-containing compound. The substance is a previously marketed U.S. drug and is not a currently developed modern therapeutic program. ([drugs.ncats.io](https://drugs.ncats.io/substance/O77D636VYN))
