Xydocin is a veterinary fixed-dose combination antibiotic injection developed by Sarabhai Chemicals. It contains procaine penicillin G, penicillin G sodium, and streptomycin sulfate. This combination provides broad-spectrum antibacterial activity against mixed bacterial infections in livestock, such as cattle. Penicillin G (both procaine and sodium salts) acts by binding to and inactivating bacterial penicillin-binding proteins (PBPs), thereby disrupting peptidoglycan cell wall synthesis and causing cell lysis. Streptomycin sulfate, an aminoglycoside antibiotic, binds irreversibly to the bacterial 30S ribosomal subunit, leading to the misreading of mRNA and inhibition of protein synthesis. Xydocin is administered via intramuscular injection and is primarily indicated for mixed bacterial infections, mastitis, and pneumonia in livestock.
