Overview

Procaterol is a long-acting beta-2 adrenergic receptor agonist and bronchodilator used primarily for the treatment of asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). It acts by stimulating beta-2 adrenergic receptors in bronchial smooth muscle, leading to muscle relaxation and bronchodilation. This results in increased airflow through the airways and relief from symptoms such as dyspnea. Procaterol may be administered orally or via aerosol inhalation. In addition to its bronchodilatory effects, it has demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties by inhibiting inflammatory mediator release and reducing airway resistance during allergic reactions. Procaterol is not approved for use in the United States but is available under various brand names in other countries. It was developed by Kissei Pharmaceutical.
