Drug intelligence / Profile preview
Inhaled PCZ 10 mg is the 10 mg dose of Staccato Prochlorperazine (AZ-001), an inhaled formulation of the dopamine D2 receptor antagonist prochlorperazine. It was originally developed by Alexza Pharmaceuticals and later acquired by Nova Pneuma, a subsidiary of Lee's Pharmaceutical. The drug is designed for the acute treatment of migraine headaches and is delivered via the proprietary Staccato system—a hand-held, single-dose inhaler that vaporizes unformulated drug into a condensation aerosol for rapid deep lung delivery, producing intravenous-like pharmacokinetics. AZ-001 completed Phase 2b clinical development for acute migraine, demonstrating significant 2-hour pain relief, but development was subsequently discontinued.
